About the Guru
Who is the Guru?
A great many things. I am:
- A husband and father
- A proud American
- A professional freelance writer
- An avid Dungeons and Dragons and RPG enthusiast
- A Methodist, and
- A passable dancer.
You can find me all around the web. I’ve got blogs, linked above, and you can find me on Twitter as well as StumbleUpon.
I am also a professionally trained historian, with advanced degrees in the field from actual real universities. My areas of study include Intellectual History, U.S. History, and Nineteenth-Century History. I have taught as an adjunct professor at Northwood University and other local schools.
For the record, I have never been, and have no desire to be, a tenured full professor at a research University. I’m happy teaching from time to time as my writing career allows, and I find plenty of outlet for my ideas on this site as well as with the occasional lecture series I am asked to present.
Isn’t it pretentious to call yourself a “Guru?”
Sure! I’m glad you noticed. But if I can’t be a little pretentious on my own blog, where can I be?
What you can expect from this site:
- An honest view of the American academic historical community
- An honest view of history
- A view of history that refuses to adhere to the trinity of race, class and gender
- An open discussion of agendas in history, be they ideological, personal or professional.
